Apostille UK Birth Certificates Frequently Asked Questions

Can Birth Certificate be rejected by the FCDO for an apostille?

If the legalization department of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) does not recognise the signature on the birth certificate, the apostille birth certificate will not be issued.

This can happen if the birth certificate is very old or very new. We would have to order the replacement Certificate as this is the only option to have your Birth Certificate apostille.

If the Foreign Office Development Office rejects the Birth Certificate because the signature on their database is not recognized there are few options.

Order replacement certificate from the General Registry Office

Contact the local registry and ask if the signatory works for the registry and explain that the signatory must contact the FCDO in order to file the signature with the FCDO database. Once the birth Certificate is issued we can obtain legalisation through Hague apostille convention.

You can order the replacement certificate at the GRO website yourself and provide on the delivery our London address or request us to order a replacement certificate on your behalf. Once the certificate is issued we can have your legalised documents return to you via DHL or you can collect it from our office.
